John Borne: Mechanic, Builder, Collector
Tractors were his true passion. Second only to his loving wife, Paula.
John Borne picked up his first wrench as a professional auto mechanic at just 16 years old. For years he kept engines running and customers on the road, and he learned how every bolt, gear and carburetor fit together. In 1983 he put that know-how to work for himself and founded Borne Construction, Inc., which he led until 2001.
His first tractor purchase was a John Deere Model C. In 2008 he started collecting in earnest, and over the next years he gathered John Deeres, Farmalls and McCormick-Deerings, along with the hit-and-miss engines, classic cars and old Jeeps that caught a mechanic's eye. John passed away at 73. What he left behind shows a man who loved machines, loved to work, and loved his family.
The Borne family has entrusted Bonnette Auction Company to find new homes for the pieces John cared for. We are honored to share his collection, and we hope each tractor goes to someone who will enjoy it the way he did.
