November 5, 2013 (KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Well-respected wood craftsman and lifelong resident of Marksville, La., Rudolf “Rudy” Haydel left an indelible mark on his hometown. After his recent passing, buyers have an opportunity to own a piece of this incredible man’s estate.
Born in 1928, Haydel lived a life of adventure. He spent his early years in Moreauville and at the age of 12, moved to Marksville and became a lifetime resident. He served in the U.S. Army as a photography, which led him to study the art in California, a talent he used throughout his life. He not only created the Mark Eichle broken wagon wheels featured on the north and south ends of Hwy 1 in Marksville, but he designed and built his own airplane. Always passionate about astronomy, Haydel filled his house with telescopes to study the stars.
Haydel founded Mardel Products with his brother-in-law, Marion Roy, in 1956 with its primary product being water skis, which was one of Haydel’s passions. The company evolved into a leading supplier of custom architectural woodwork in Central Louisiana with projects completed from Shreveport to New Orleans. In 1993, another brother-in-law team, Ronnie Plauche and Frank Giglio, bought Mardel Products from Haydel, who had become the sole owner.
